"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。故事以抗战时期桂林土生土长的戚家和苏家两家人命运展开，随着中国抗日战争的全面展开，戚家四兄弟与苏家三姐妹之间也随之上演了种种曲折和复杂的情感纠葛和命运变化……。
